Get Involved in Social Media Week February 2011

Social Media Week returns February 7-11, 2011: organizers Crowdcentric and local city partners are inviting individuals, organizations and brand partners to ‘Get Involved’ in the curation, planning and organization of the multi-city conference.

Nov 04, 2010 – New York, NY: Social Media Week (http://socialmediaweek.org) returns February 7-11, 2011 and global organizers Crowdcentric and their local city partners are inviting individuals, organizations and brand partners to ‘Get Involved’ in the curation, planning and organization of the multi-city conference.

Taking place simultaneously in New York, London, São Paulo, Toronto, San Francisco, Rome, and Paris, plus two to three additional cities soon to be named, Social Media Week February 2011 will be its biggest and most inclusive iteration yet.

As an open and collaborative platform, Social Media Week provides many ways to ‘Get Involved’, including curating and hosting events, speaking and presenting, designing workshops, facilitating interviews, sponsoring events, providing editorial coverage and volunteering to participate on the local host committees.

Past event partners have included New York Times, who hosted three events in Social Media Week February 2010 at their Times Center in midtown New York focusing on the intersection of social media and journalism, sports entertainment and also how social and mobile media supports post-disaster news gathering and reporting.

In September 2010, Live Nation presented a panel discussion on online music communities at the House of Blues during Social Media Week Los Angeles followed by a live music showcase, and in Colombia leading national newspaper El Tiempo invited Social Media Week Bogotá into their Casa Editorial for a day of discussions on social media best practices in journalism and lessons learned in politics and social media.

Other prestigious brands that have been involved in Social Media Week as sponsors or partners since 2009 include JWT, Financial Times, MoMA, Condé Nast, WIRED, Time Inc., Booz & Company, Whole Foods, Sony, IDEO, Microsoft, MTV, Porter Novelli, Razorfish, and Saatchi.

Toby Daniels, Founder & Executive Director of Social Media Week and CEO of Crowdcentric, said, “Social Media Week is predicated on an open-source model of curation and participation, where content, programming and events are made possible by the brilliant ideas and hard work of event partners and free access to it all provided by generous financial support from brands like PepsiCo, Meebo, Vodafone, Samsung, Nokia, and SalesForce.com. We believe that access to high-quality learning experiences, business networking and buyer /seller market places should not be exclusive to a limited number of executives and organizations that can afford it.”
