In his most recent State of the Word address dated August 19th, WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg revealed growth statistics of today's most popular content management system based on a recently conducted survey. The WordPress platform, an open source blog and publishing tool originally released in May of 2003, has undergone significant changes in the past years and is now powering 14.7% of the world's top million websites; a 6.2% increase over last year. Australian internet marketing expert James Schramko and author of the acclaimed FastWebFormula Live Event series, is one of the thousands of users of the CMS platform. He says:

Results of the first ever survey done by WordPress attribute the popularity and success of the platform to its Ease of Use - over 18,000 respondents from all over the world took the survey and almost unanimously agreed on that answer.
In contrast, one of the drawbacks indicated by the survey, is choosing the right plugin among the estimated fifteen thousand plugins in existence today. Mullenweg however, took this as a good sign the, stating that "it represents the breadth and depth of the development ecosystem around WordPress."
