By: Joe Purcell Two significant events have unfolded: DigiNotar, the Dutch Certificate Authority, has filed for bankruptcy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan's leading defense contractor, has been breached.
DigiNotar was attacked last month which has now resulted in the company declaring bankruptcy.
After the attack, nearly all major computer companies banned DigiNotar certificates: Microsoft, Apple, Linux, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.
The concern was that any DigiNotar certificate could be a forgery, and therefore unsafe.
Speaking of unsafe, it is expected that the government and defense contractors would have the most impossible barriers in place to prevent cyber attacks.
Yet again, it is made known just how insecure the internet is. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was breached and was first noticed on August 11th.
This comes after three US DoD contractors were breached earlier this year.
Cyber security is a world of its own. Until programmers become security experts or security experts are hired to overlook the work of programmers, the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) will keep pumping out vulnerability updates by the dozens.
