Stop Talking about yourself

I don’t know about you guys but I really cannot stand talking to people who just cannot seem to stop talking about themselves. Talking to someone who does nothing but talk about what he does and what he has achieved is just sheer torture.
In a cocktail party, he is that one person whom everyone tries to avoid like the plague. It would be a whole lot nicer talking to someone about day to day stuff, alternately sharing experiences, struggles, and desires.
The same principle applies in Social Media. Nobody wants to listen to someone who does nothing but talk about himself all day long.
Social media scientist Dan Zarrella has the metrics to back this up.
After studying a thousand of influential people on Twitter, he observed that as the number of self referential Tweets increases, the number of followers decreased.
Social media is like a big party. People don’t like listening to boring, same old conversations; they will also avoid the egotistic clown. Now if you want to make a difference, start a conversation by talking about your point of view and then share your perspective on the topic at hand.
If you look at how people behave in Facebook, you’d notice that if a particular post has been shared a thousand times, people no longer find that much of a motivation in sharing it any further. This is because everyone wants to be “the one” to share it first. In general, people want to hear about unique perspectives, cool analysis, and different insights from other people. That’s how social media works.
The world wants to know about your opinion; so start talking.
